IF there is anything I am truly jealous of it's my very spoiled cat Sylvester (a.k.a. Sly) She has it soooo good. All she does is sleep, and eat. My husband found her abandoned about 12 years ago. She was this scrawney, ugly kitten that was too young to be seperated from her mother. She's obviously no longer an ugly scrawney cat. She is a royal cat who demands respect and attention. She has an attitude like you wouldn't believe. With this said, I wouldn't change a thing about her. Not a day goes by where she doesn't make the entire family laugh.

Rainbow Cupcakes!

Today was the perfect day to make rainbow cupcakes with my kids. They LOVED it! I emailed a photo to my husband who immediately responded with "Save me some!" They came out better than I expected and they taste even better.

(I used Wilton gel food coloring...I was told that this works the best. )

If you're interested in making these, it's REALLY EASY. I used a ready to go cake mix from a box. After I followed the directions on the box, I seperated the mix into seperate bowls. Then I added the different food colorings. I layered each color in the cupcake liners. That's it!

Here are my darling 3 kids sticking their dirty little fingers in the left over cake mix. LOVE IT! (You can only see two of my kids, but if you look really hard you will see there are 3 kids in all)

Hello All! So after a very long day yesterday...I needed some art. Yesterday I had the pleasure of having a root canal. Believe me when I say I felt NOTHING and that's because my Dentist ROCKS!! Here's the kicker, my Dentist discoved that another tooth which I had a root canal done about 10 years ago (NOT BY HIM) is now infected. I have to get the root canal redone. Good times! Here's the next kicker, my favorite dentist in the whole wide world CAN'T do it. Apparently the infection is too deep and I must go to a specialist. DAMN! I am not happy about this but what can I do? Answer: MAKE ART AND GET OVER IT.

Hi Everyone! These pages are obviously inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. It wasn't my intention to create a "dark" version, but that's just what happened organically. The wording around the pages are rub-ons that I had previously added before making the decision of making these pages. So I just went with the flow. I actually like how they turned out. At first I thought I'd cover them up with acrylic paint. Later I decided to use watersoluble pastels instead. The rub-ons resisted the wax which I thought was a nice touch.

DAY 30 I Did It!

Wow I can't believe I made it to day 30. It was harder than I thought. The hardest part was taking pics, loading, and posting. Finding the time and energy was a challenge. But I did it!

Woke up this morning, made my coffee, fed the kids, and made sure they were happy before I sat at my desk to sketch. So I did that for a little bit, then I got the kids ready to go see Cars 2. What a cute movie. WARNING run on sentence ahead: Did some shopping, came home and sketched some more, played with kids, ran a few earrands, made lunch, sketched some more, cooked dinner and now I am off to work (there's a lot I am leaving out, but I think you get the idea). I was determined to finish my sketch, but time did not allow it. So here's what I have for Day 30. I'm working on a Doll Dream called Sisters.

Day 29: Part One: Last night I went to see Tim Burton's exhibit at the LACMA (Los Angeles County Musuem of Art). It was unbelievable to say the least. His work is amazing, moving and oh so inspirational. The only thing that sucked was that they only allowed photos to be taken at the entrance. So I have no photos of the actual exhibit. It took so much will power not to touch anything inside.

I have been working on some sketches. I'm doing an art swap with a fellow artist and I am being sooo hard on myself. So far I have drawn 5 potential sketches and none of them have been "it" When I draw my girls in my journal, my attitude is "they are what they are, and I love them no matter what" BUT now I find that when I am drawing a girl for someone else, Holy Cow I am so critical of MYSELF. I need to calm down and just let it happen naturally (EASIER SAID THAN DONE) lol

More Art News: I am excited to announce that I am taking a class with Adriana Almanza at http://dolldreams.ning.com This was my b-day gift to myself. I can't wait to get started. I truly admire and respect Ady both as an artist and friend. I love her unique style of creating doll like girls with big soulful eyes. My goal is not to draw like her, because that is HER style. I am doing this to better myself to learn new techniques and approaches to art. This page was inspired by my son, Anthony (age 5). My son LOVES to sing, especially when he's playing in his room. He'll sing so loud that I bet my neighbors can hear him. It cracks me up. A few years ago I purshased a deck of affirmation cards by Louise L. Hay called Wisdom Cards. The goal was to read a card everyday to help me change my way of thinking. I put the cards in my craft closet and forgot all about them, until NOW. I came across them a few days ago and couldn't help but laugh because I am known to do this (purchase things and forget they ever existed). My 5 year old son inspired me to do this Art page (for 2 reasons). The FIRST REASON: For the last month or so, all he's talked about is the Life Cycle of a Butterfly (it was the last BIG thing he learned in Kindergarten). He would come home from school and give me all the details and information he received on that particular day. REALLY CUTE. He was obviously interested and truly cared about the information he was receiving. SECOND REASON: I try my best to always inspire my son with POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS. They work for me, so why not share some with him? My latest quote/affirmation has been by Maya Angelou, "When You Know Better, You Do Better." I find myself repeating those words on a daily basis. I am trying so hard to improve my way of thinking. So what ever quote or affirmation I am stuck on...I repeat to him DAILY.

So here is the first page of my new Moleskine. Still not sure what I want to do with the cover...I'll probably do that sometime this week. As for this page, I did something I usually don't do, I drew the girl right on the page. It's been a habit of mine to collage my drawings (girls) onto a background. I usually like to start my pages with a fun and interesting background, then use that to inspire me to draw a girl. This allows me to really get all over the place without the fear of "ruining" a drawing. But I want to break free from that idea that something can be ruined. I will still collage my girls here and there, because it's a process I enjoy. I want to try new techniques, supplies, ideas in this journal. So if anyone can give my any tips, ideas of things they have done, I would LOVE to hear about it.

On this page I used tissue paper, rub-ons, stamps, paint and gesso to create the background.

Last night I had the privilege of seeing the band, System Of A Down live at the Forum in Inglewood, California. What an amazing show! Listening to them for 2 hours straight (NO INTERMISSION) was a beautiful thing. They sang all the right songs with the most incredible energy. I did it! I actually completed a page in my loyal journal today. May seem like no big deal but really it was. I "made" time today to play, to create, to have FUN! Time has been moving ever so quickly (not that I'm complaining) and before I know it, I'm climbing into bed as my journal sits patiently on my desk waiting to be explored. What a long week this was. All 3 of my kids were sick with HIGH fevers (viral infection, sinus infection, and ear infection). It's true when they say, when it rains it pours. The worst part was having to take one of my daughters (3 yrs old) to the ER. That was extrememly emotional and scary. Now my kids are smiling again and are back to normal. Today I finally completed a journal page I had started BEFORE Easter. I still need to add some wording, but other than that it's done (I think).

My darling husband and I stayed up til' 12:30 a.m creating these suckers (no pun intended). It was our first time making these cakes on a stick and I have to say they are extremely fun to make. However, I must warn you, they are time consuming, (especially if you're making multiple colors and have very little freezer space). We made close to 70 pops! I can't wait to make more for another occasion. I'll definetely get my kids involved the next time around.

It wasn't what I had expected, at least not from a 3 year old.

When my girls paint they usually take the brush dip it into every color and just PAiNT. "Paint whatever you like and make sure you're having fun," is what I tell them.

Today was different, at least for one of my girls. I immediately took notice that when she began painting, there was a goal. She was going somewhere specific with her brush. I noticed the crown and was very intrigued with what would come next. So I stood back and patiently waited. Next, a face formed, then some eyes. "Wow" I thought, I wonder if this is an accident or is it intentional? So I asked, "What are you painting?" Makayla replied, "This is Batman."

BATMAN???? Where the heck did she pull this idea from? Okay so I thought MAY BE from her 5 year old brother, but he has NO interest in Batman what so ever. His 2 ObseSSions are 1. Legos 2. Star Wars.

Well what ever the reason, the drawing came out pretty darn good.

I can't get enough of creating these shabby, distress backgrounds. So much fun. I added molding paste this time and boy am I lovin' it. Right now I am in the phase of creating interesting backgounds and painting girls. I have completely neglected my other scrapbooking projects. Hopefully I will complete my lastest album before it becomes ancient history.
